Project Overview
Our proposed first-floor extension and renovation for this 30-year-old 2BHK residence in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, is a testament to this philosophy. The project addresses the evolving needs of a growing family, meticulously expanding living space without compromising the original home's structural integrity or charm. This design intervention showcases our expertise in residential renovation and home additions in the Nilgiris.

Given the original building's nearly three-decade age, structural integrity and longevity were paramount. Scape Living strategically proposed lightweight AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) blocks for the new construction. This innovative material choice significantly reduces the dead load on the existing structure, a critical consideration for home extensions in Ooty's unique climate. Beyond structural benefits, AAC blocks enhance thermal comfort and acoustic performance, contributing to a more energy-efficient and quiet living environment. This highlights our commitment to sustainable construction practices in Tamil Nadu.

The primary challenge was to introduce a new 2BHK layout on the first floor that could seamlessly integrate with the existing ground floor, a modest and traditional structure. Our design strategy was meticulously configured around the existing structural grid, ensuring no overloading on the foundation and columns. To achieve a harmonious blend, a classical architectural language was thoughtfully adopted. This approach involved refined detailing, proportioned massing, and timeless material choices, allowing the new extension to complement the original character of the Ooty residence. The primary challenge was to introduce a new 2BHK layout on the first floor that could seamlessly integrate with the existing ground floor, a modest and traditional structure.
