The Footover Bridge at PSG College of Technology was initiated as a crucial pedestrian infrastructure upgrade following the construction of a state highway flyover adjacent to the campus. The old pedestrian bridge was no longer viable due to new clearance requirements set to accommodate vehicles up to 15 meters in height. To ensure continued safety and connectivity for students, faculty, and visitors, a completely new bridge design was proposed beneath the towering flyover.

Structural & Functional Highlights
 

  • Elevated Clearance: Designed specifically to allow uninterrupted passage of large commercial vehicles below, ensuring compliance with highway standards.

  • Material Efficiency: Utilization of lightweight, durable materials for long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.

  • Parametric Geometry: The bridge’s unique form emerges from computational design processes, ensuring optimized structural integrity and dynamic visual identity.

  • Accessibility: Integrated ramps or steps ensure comfortable pedestrian flow while maintaining safety features such as railings and non-slip surfaces.

The design approach focused on creating a lightweight, functional, and visually distinct structure that could safely span the required distance while meeting all height clearance regulations. Embracing parametric design principles, the bridge was envisioned not only as a connector but as a landmark within the urban campus fabric.
The form reflects both efficiency and elegance, with smooth curves and rhythmic geometry enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.
