 Project Overview

Located in the lush hillside town of Coonoor, this residence is designed to embrace its linear site and respond to the natural contours and western vistas. The clients envisioned a simple, modern family home that takes full advantage of the site’s sunset views, natural ventilation, and topographical assets. The result is a functionally zoned, experience-driven home designed for emotional comfort and practical living.

Residence in Coonoor

The core philosophy behind the design was to create a light-filled, linear home that merges clean architectural lines with contextual sensitivity. The home emphasizes passive design strategies, including open-to-sky (OTS) elements, double-height volumes, and cross-ventilation corridors, all of which promote energy efficiency and sensory well-being.

The Coonoor Residence features a thoughtfully zoned linear layout that balances functionality, light, and openness. On the ground floor, a defined foyer creates a sense of entry and privacy before leading into a well-lit living room. The central dining space becomes a spatial highlight with its double-height ceiling and an open-to-sky (OTS) element that invites natural light and ventilation deep into the home. Adjacent to this, the kitchen and utility area are tucked efficiently for seamless day-to-day use. A bedroom on this level provides convenience for guests or elderly family members. The first floor houses two bedrooms that open up to serene sunset views, while a cozy family lounge overlooks the dining void below—enhancing vertical interaction and maintaining visual connectivity between floors.
