What once stood as an aging structure has now been thoughtfully transformed into a tranquil haven; where architecture complements the forest, and every space is curated for serene, elevated living.

Phase I

This site plan for the Whispering Woods project captures the thoughtful integration of architecture with the natural topography and vegetation. The layout reveals a meandering landscape, enhanced by bioswales and water features, that creates a fluid connection between built spaces and the surrounding forest. Carefully placed structures ensure minimal ecological disruption while offering maximum visual and sensory engagement with nature. The central core of the design—likely the elite stay unit and shared amenities—is surrounded by a rich canopy of trees, curated pathways, and natural elements, emphasizing the project's commitment to sustainable design and immersive hospitality. The plan reflects Studio Goodscape’s ethos of contextual sensitivity, where each element responds to the land’s character and rhythm.

Bedroom - Golden Hour

This frame captures a quiet moment as the sloped roof has a fixed window with rollable shades in the same space — once in daylight, once during the golden hour. The structure stays still, but the mood shifts, the light dances, and the soul of the space awakens. Good design invites nature in. It considers not only what you see inside, but how you feel when you look out.

Role of locally sourced stones

Designing a stone-and-brick building in Kotagiri (Nilgiris, 1,800m elevation) raises a key question: Will stone walls overheat in this subtropical, forested climate?

1. Thermal Mass Dynamics:

• Stone absorbs heat slowly (great for winter warmth) but risks nighttime overheating in summer without ventilation.
• With 50% sunlight (thanks to forest shade), heat gain is moderated but not eliminated.

2. Simulation Findings:

• Summer: Indoor temps can rise 2–4°C above outdoors without cross-ventilation.
• Winter: Stone’s heat retention becomes an asset!
